Where NRIs can buy bonds in India

RBI Retail Direct accepts non-residents eligible under FEMA, and IndiaBonds and Bonds Kart advertise NRI access. Grip Invest and Jiraaf exclude NRIs, and most other platforms do not publish their rules clearly enough to verify.

Government securities are the clearest route

RBI states eligibility for non-residents in the Retail Direct scheme itself, and Retail Direct covers T-bills, dated G-secs, SDLs and SGBs with no account or bid fee. It does not sell corporate bonds.

Questions to ask a platform before you sign up

Ask which bank account it will debit (NRO or NRE), which demat type it will use, and whether the specific bond is open to non-residents. Bonds Kart groups only some bonds as NRI-eligible, which suggests eligibility can differ bond by bond. Searches for TDS on bonds for NRIs are common; tax treatment is outside the scope of this page.
